The Côte d’Ivoire Communauté Abel is Gruppo Abele’s first international cooperative in Africa was founded in 1983 to contribute to give new dignity to the weakest. Communauté Abel’s primary axis hinges on education through cultural initiatives, counselling services, educational programs, professional training for boys and girls aged 14-21.
WHERE WE ARE
We are in Grand Bassam (Ivory Coast – South Comoé region), a town of 80 thousand people close to the lagoon area, not so far away from Abidjan.
OUR BENEFICIARIES
Communauté Abel has been founded as a joint project between the Ivorian Ministry of Justice and Gruppo Abele to provide housing and opportunity for social reintegration through vocational training to juvenile offenders. Over the course of the last three decades and as a response to the recurring political, economic and social crises, we consider as our potential beneficiaries women, and at-risk youth, including orphans and those affected by war, human trafficking, labor exploitation, and extreme poverty.
OTHERS SERVICES
We also offer food and basic health and preventative assistance and medications for the four most common diseases: malaria, typhoid fever, respiratory tract infections, and intestinal parasites. We have recently strengthened our commitment to preventative care through health education campaigns. Girls and boys enrolled in our programs can benefit from our network of local artisans and enterprises for their reintegration into working life.
